The gear covered in this safety standard includes garments, helmets, gloves, footwear, face/neck shrouds, goggles, chain saw protection, and load-carrying equipment. NFPA 1877, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Wildland Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment, was created to establish basic criteria for the selection, inspection, cleaning, decontamination, repair, storage, and retirement of wildland firefighting protective clothing and equipment.
