Description of NFPA 914 2007

Per NFPA's requirements, when purchasing NFPA 2021 Standards and/or 2020 NFPA 70 (NEC), you must subscribe to at least one more NFPA Standard to complete your purchase. In order to fulfill this requirement, we automatically add 2019 NFPA 900 to your cart. This title may be removed during checkout if you choose to add a different NFPA standard to your cart, and pricing will be recalculated accordingly.

Ensure fire protection, fire safety, and security in historic buildings with NFPA 914.

Protect historic buildings and historic sites--along with everyone who operates, uses, and visits them--with the latest requirements for fire protection and fire prevention in NFPA 914. Apply the 2007 edition to improve or upgrade the fire protection features in a wide range of historic buildings, and address ongoing operations as well as renovation, and restoration projects. Provisions of the code acknowledge the need to preserve the historic character of these unique occupancies while providing the necessary level of life safety and fire protection.

Additions and technical changes provide more comprehensive support!

A first-time chapter on security expands the scope of the Code. Also included is vital information about management operations and emergency response plans. Technical changes address a wide range of topics, including:

  • Life safety performance criteria
  • Types of automatic sprinklers to be used
  • Inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems
  • Requirements for fire doors
  • Additions, alterations, and repairs including roofing; plumbing; temporary enclosures and temporary wiring; hotwork; and cabeling
  • Housekeeping practices
  • Use of combustible packing materials
  • Commercial cooking and food service operations
  • Addressing deficiencies discovered during compliance audits

Use NFPA 914 to confidently evaluate the fire and life safety features of historic buildings, and to develop and implement an effective plan of action.

Other significant revisions in the 2007 edition include better correlation with the 2005 NFPA 909: Protection of Cultural Resource Properties--Museums, Libraries, and Places of Worship. Prescriptive as well as performance-based approaches are presented, along with a first-time Annex illustrating compliance alternatives.
