Chicago Faucets Plumbing design is highly regulated; improper design and installation can pose a serious health risk or result in costly property damage. This course reviews the plumbing codes and standards that govern plumbing fittings and fixtures, with special attention to standards to control the leaching of organics, metals, and lead into drinking water. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the regulatory system in the US for plumbing.
  • Describe the difference between a code and a standard.
  • Summarize the scope and requirements of NSF 61 and NSF 372.
  • Explain the purpose and process of plumbing product certification.
  • Identify fittings intended for potable drinking water and those that are exempt.

Faculty BIO

Larry Himmelblau is the Senior Product Compliance Engineer for Chicago Faucets, a position he has held for the last 18 years. Larry has spent 30 years in the plumbing industry with experience in code compliance, design, and engineering. He also represents Chicago Faucets as a voting member on ASME and CSA committees. Prior to joining Chicago Faucets, Larry was a product design engineer for Elkay and spent 10 years as an engineer in the construction vehicle industry.
