Englert, Inc. Wind load can significantly impact buildings, affecting their structural integrity and safety. Perimeter roof edge systems are a primary safeguard during strong wind events. This course provides an overview of the types, features, and benefits of perimeter roof edge systems, system selection considerations, the impact of wind uplift on roofs, and the building codes and testing standards applicable to perimeter roof edge systems. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Recall perimeter roof edge system selection considerations relating to resistance to wind uplift, thermal movement, moisture infiltration, durability, and aesthetics.
  • Discuss the types of perimeter roof edge systems and their installation processes that secure the roof membrane and maintain the integrity of the building envelope.
  • Explain wind uplift and identify the areas of a building most vulnerable to wind pressures.
  • Recall the standards referenced in the 2024 International Building Code (IBC) and the 2023 Florida Building Code (FBC) applicable to the testing of perimeter roof edge systems to determine wind uplift resistance.
