Content Description

Insulated Siding: Product Performance & Styling Choices, 2024
CEU: 0.1 | CEU Code: RB-EN-128103-0124

Insulated vinyl siding, known as insulated siding, is an exterior cladding that combines the protection and low maintenance of traditional vinyl siding with the energy efficiency of EPS foam. The composite results in an improvement in performance and aesthetics. This course discusses the benefits associated with installing insulated siding on new and renovation residential construction projects, and the range of architectural styles that can be achieved with the breadth of design and color options available.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify insulated siding profiles and the various architectural trims and accessories that enable builders, remodelers, architects, designers, and homeowners to accurately recreate architectural styles with different historical and cultural roots.
  • Discuss the testing of insulated siding products by an independent, third-party quality control agency to show how the components of insulated siding work together to resist heat, wind, and rain to protect residential construction.
  • Discuss why insulated siding with molded graphite-polystyrene (GPS) rigid foam offers several advantages over other exterior cladding systems in terms of its ability to improve occupant comfort through thermal control and noise reduction.
  • Explain why energy code and building performance programs recognize insulated siding as a form of continuous insulation that increases the R-value of exterior walls and contributes to a home's energy efficiency.
