Content Description

Thermoplastic Sheet Products for High-Performance Architectural Glazing, 2024
CEU: 0.1 | CEU Code: PL-EN-136805-0424

Building owners value daylighting and views but face security and safety challenges with large amounts of glazing. Thermoplastic sheet products offer a variety of glazing solutions that resist security threats while providing transparency, strength, and durability. This course introduces the grades and characteristics of acrylic and polycarbonate sheet products and discusses how they meet the requirements for protection against forced entry and ballistics.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate why thermoplastic sheet products can be used as an alternative to high-performance glazing in applications where transparency and strength are needed to protect a building and its occupants against forced entry and ballistics.
  • Discuss how thermoplastic sheet products improve daylighting systems and increase occupant comfort by examining their optical characteristics, including their high degree of light transmission and ultraviolet (UV) resistance.
  • List the performance criteria for thermoplastic sheets by referencing standard specifications and regulatory codes identifying key application areas where thermoplastics are used.
  • Evaluate the glazing needs of a building project and select the appropriate thermoplastic sheet product to satisfy its visibility and security requirements.
  • Examine thermoplastics used in lighting lenses in conjunction with energy-saving LEDs.

Faculty BIO
