Amarr Commercial Overhead Doors Today's sectional overhead doors are more sophisticated than ever. Options include high-strength glazing for security and insulated steel sections for increased energy efficiency and durability. Code requirements for safety in high wind-load areas, impact resistance to hurricanes, and reductions in air transmission have led to improvements in door technology and hardware. This course examines a range of safety and security options for architects to consider when designing and specifying sectional overhead doors. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify a range of safety and security options to consider when specifying this door type, including entrapment safety devices.
  • Explore door section design and installation, including track lift types, spring options, and safety hardware, as well as wind'load design.
  • Explain how insulated sectional doors can increase energy efficiency.
  • Identify industry associations and training certifications for commercial door installers.

Faculty BIO

Mark Johnson, FAIA, practiced as an architect on the West Coast before entering the building product manufacturing industry. He has held progressive positions for major corporations, focusing on the architectural profession and their continuing-education needs. During this journey, Mark has led teams that garnered three National AIA Continuing Education Awards for Excellence. His pioneering work for CertainTeed Corporation led to the first online course offering in the US for architects from a product manufacturer. At Whirlpool Corporation he led the team that developed the first courses offered to architects on a portable device, a groundbreaking collaboration with Apple and Google.
