Polyiso CI for Code-Compliant Walls in Types I–IV Construction, 2024

PIMA - Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers A There are a multitude of building envelope products used and a variety of methods taken for achieving energy and building code requirements. Understanding the different roles a product plays in the envelope simplifies its design. In this course, we take a look at the code requirements for buildings classified as IBC Types I'IV, paths to achieving compliance, and the number of roles polyisocyanurate insulation plays in meeting these requirements. 75 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Define continuous insulation (ci), the role of ci, and types and properties.
  • Identify the applications of polyiso ci, including its use as exterior insulation, water-resistive barrier (WRB), and air barrier (AB) and as a multifunctional or composite performance sheathing.
  • Recall energy code compliance, including prescriptive, U-value, and performance paths.
  • Recall building code compliance, including fire, wind pressure, and building science (WRB, AB, vapor retarder) considerations.

Faculty BIO

I started in the construction industry in 1971 doing mostly residential construction and progressed to commercial work through 1989 working in northern New England and Oregon. From 1989 to 1999 I served as Engineering Manager, Operational Manager and then VP of Operations for a Northern New England chemical distribution business. I joined Hunter Panels in 1999 serving as Logistics Manager, Specialty Products & Technical Manager, both on the roofing side, and since 2010 at my present position in our Xci wall division. Along with one other, I led our entry into the commercial wall market.
