Designing High-Performance Data Centers for Intelligent Buildings, 2024
CEU: 0.125 | CEU Code: LE-EN-165303-0625

Today's buildings are evolving from independently functioning structures to intelligent buildings that interact with occupants and surrounding buildings. This trend has impacted the design, operation, and maintenance of data centers around the globe due to the increased demand for data and digital communication and has resulted in more high-performance data centers. This presentation addresses the specific needs of data centers and presents high-performance design solutions that support sustainable design.

Learning Objectives

  • Recall current technology trends as they relate to data, buildings, and sustainability, and how data demands are being driven through changes in technology in today's buildings.
  • Define intelligent building.
  • Identify the challenges of intelligent buildings that arise from large IT grids, and the opportunities presented when building new or transitioning an existing building to an intelligent building.
  • Illustrate how LEED and sustainable design strategies accommodate technological advancements and increases in data demands'without sacrificing safety, cost, or environmental impact.
  • Explore high-performance solutions for data center design to achieve LEED certification.

Faculty BIO

Andressa Johnson has been designing solutions for fiber, copper, and physical support products for Legrand since she joined the Data Communication Division of Legrand in 2016. Her manufacturing and operations background allows her to meet clients' special requests with a broader view of sustainable design. Andressa has published in the ASME Nano and Micro manufacturing journal and she is working towards her Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut.Rene Parrinello has been performing life cycle analyses and creating Product Environmental Profiles, a type of Environmental Product Declaration, for electronic products since she joined the Data Communications Division of Legrand in 2014. She's currently created over 20 PEP's, covering over 100 products for structured cabling systems. Her background is in sustainability in the built environment. Prior to working at Legrand, Rene interned at a construction company and worked on a LEED design team for a renovation project. Rene has a LEED Green Associate accreditation.
