The Benefits of Implementing Water Conservation Standards by Building beyond Code, 2024

Niagara The planet is currently in a water scarcity crisis, which is significantly affected by toilet water usage. This course examines the current plumbing codes, standards, and regulations that address toilet water usage, the need for and benefits of going beyond current standards, and the goals of a variety of beyond-the-code voluntary standards and rating systems, such as LEED v4 BD+C and ICC 700 National Green Building Standard. It explains the various types of low-flow and ultra-low-flow toilets, their pros and cons, and their selection criteria. It concludes with a sampling of successful cost- and water-saving installations. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Significantly reduce water consumption and costs by using low-flow and ultra-low-flow toilets.
  • Capitalize on green building benefits by lowering water consumption with ultra-high-efficiency toilets (UHETs).
  • Inform developers of financial incentives related to water conservation for affordable housing programs.
  • Exceed current code and standard water consumption requirements by meeting water use requirements of LEED v4 BD+C, ICC 700, and other voluntary green building rating systems.

Faculty BIO

Richard Rossi serves as the Business Development Manager, West, for Niagara. A long-standing, knowledgeable member of the architecture, engineering, and construction communities, Richard's responsibilities with Niagara include expanding and developing business opportunities in the new-construction and renovation markets with a focus on multiresidential and hospitality projects. Richard has been presenting continuing education courses for architects, engineers, consultants, builders, developers, and contractors for over 20 years.
