Content DescriptionSponsored by the Task Group 2 Reliability-Based Performance Indicators for Structural Systems, Former Technical Council on Life-Cycle Performance, Safety, Reliability and Risk of Structural Systems, SEI Technical Community Executive Committee of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE Effects of Climate Change on Life-Cycle Performance of Structures and Infrastructure Systems: Safety, Reliability, and Risk presents and explores efforts to implement criteria, techniques, and tools for the life-cycle design, assessment, maintenance, and management of civil structures and infrastructure systems under climate change. The goals are to (1) review available information on climate change, (2) outline methods that can be used to update current design standards to account for climate change and assess the performance of structural systems, and (3) identify methodologies and tools that could help civil engineers address the impacts of climate change on the life cycle performance, safety, and risk of structures and infrastructure systems. Main topics covered include • Structures and infrastructures under climate change, • Climate projection models and data, • Impact of climate change on infrastructure performance, and • Life-cycle risk-based decision making in a changing climate. This book intends to be a resource for engineers, researchers, government officials, infrastructure managers and decision-makers, and professionals in the structural engineering community seeking to advance their understanding of climate change and account for the effects of climate change on life-cycle performance of existing and future structures and infrastructure systems.
