Description of ASTM-A1010 2009

ASTM A1010 / A1010M - 01(2009)

Standard Specification for Higher-Strength Martensitic Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet , and Strip

Active Standard ASTM A1010 / A1010M | Developed by Subcommittee: A01.17

Book of Standards Volume: 01.03

ASTM A1010 / A1010M

Abstract

This specification covers the standard for martensitic stainless steel for various structural, architectural, pressure vessel, and heat-resisting applications. The material shall undergo heat-treatment by tempering. The steel shall conform to the requirements as to chemical composition specified for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen. Mechanical testing shall be performed on the steel and shall conform to the specified values in mechanical properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and Brinell hardness.

This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date.

1. Scope

1.1 This specification covers martensitic stainless steels for various structural, architectural, pressure vessel, and heat-resisting applications. The mechanical properties of these steels are customarily, but not necessarily, developed by a suitable heat treatment generally referred to as tempering.

1.2 Steel products under this specification are available in two grades:

Grade Yield Strength, min, ksi [MPa]
40 [275] 40 [275]
50 [350] 50 [350]

1.3 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by the capacity of the composition to meet the specified mechanical property requirements; however, current practice normally limits the maximum thickness of plates furnished under this specification to 1 in. [25 mm].

1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

2. Referenced Documents (purchase separately) The documents listed below are referenced within the subject standard but are not provided as part of the standard.
