Description of ASTM-A743 2013ASTM A743 / A743M - 13aStandard Specification for Castings, Iron-Chromium, Iron-Chromium-Nickel, Corrosion Resistant, for General ApplicationActive Standard ASTM A743 / A743M | Developed by Subcommittee: A01.18 Book of Standards Volume: 01.02 ASTM A743 / A743MAbstract This specification covers iron-chromium and iron-chromium-nickel alloy castings for general corrosion-resistant application. The grades of these castings represent types of alloy castings suitable for broad ranges of application which are intended for a wide variety of corrosion environments. The steel shall be made by the electric furnace process with or without separate refining such as argon-oxygen decarburization. The castings shall be subjected to heat treatment. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers iron-chromium and iron-chromium-nickel alloy castings for general corrosion-resistant application. The grades covered by this specification represent types of alloy castings suitable for broad ranges of application which are intended for a wide variety of corrosion environments.
Note 1 For alloy castings for severe corrosion-resistant service, reference should be made to Specification
A744/A744M . For general heat-resistant alloy castings, reference should be made to Specification A297/A297M . For nickel alloy castings for corrosion-resistant service, reference should be
made to Specification A494/A494M .
1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification. Inch-pound units are applicable for material ordered to Specification A743 and SI units for material ordered to Specification A743M.
