Description of ASTM-B869 2013ASTM B869 - 07(2013)Standard Specification for Copper-Clad Steel Electrical Conductor for CATV Drop WireActive Standard ASTM B869 | Developed by Subcommittee: B01.06 Book of Standards Volume: 02.03 ASTM B869Abstract This specification covers hard-drawn round copper-clad steel electrical conductor for CATV drop wire (coaxial cable center conductor). The wire shall be composed of a steel core with a substantially uniform and continuous copper cladding thoroughly bonded to it throughout. The size shall be expressed as the diameter of the wire. The steel wire shall conform to the prescribed tensile strength, elongation, and breaking strength. Requirements for (1) tension and torsion tests, (2) method of determining the electrical resistance, (3) cladding uniformity in terms of thickness, and (4) joint construction are detailed. The prescribed density of the wire to be taken for calculating mass/unit length, cross section, and so forth is given. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers 21?% conductivity hard-drawn round copper-clad steel wire for coaxial cable center conductors ( Note 1 ).
Note 1 Wire ordered to this specification is not intended for redrawing since it is furnished in the hard-drawn
temper. If wire is desired for the purpose, the manufacturer should be consulted.
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
