Description of ASTM-D5137 2013ASTM D5137 - 07(2013)Standard Specification for Hexyl AcetateActive Standard ASTM D5137 | Developed by Subcommittee: D01.35 Book of Standards Volume: 06.04 ASTM D5137Abstract This specification establishes the properties and requirements for hexyl acetate used as an active tail high boiling solvent in lacquers, automotive coatings, maintenance paints, and other related coatings. Specimens shall be sampled and tested as appropriate, and shall meet specified values of the following properties: acidity (free acid as acetic acid); apparent specific gravity; color (Pt-Co units); distillation range (initial boiling point and 95 % point); Ransburg electrical resistivity; ester value; and water content. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. Scope 1.1 This specification covers hexyl acetate, which is used as an active tail high boiling solvent in lacquers, automotive coatings, maintenance paints, and other related coatings. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 The following applies to all specified limits in this standard; for purposes of determining conformance with this standard, an observed value or a calculated value shall be rounded off to the nearest unit in the last right-hand digit used in expressing the specification limit, in accordance with the rounding-off method of Practice E29 . 1.4 For specific hazard information and guidance, see the supplier's Material Safety Data Sheet.
