Description of ASTM-F2516 2007ASTM F2516 - 07e2Standard Test Method for Tension Testing of Nickel-Titanium Superelastic MaterialsActive Standard ASTM F2516 | Developed by Subcommittee: F04.15 Book of Standards Volume: 13.02 ASTM F2516Significance and Use Tension tests provide information on the strength and ductility of materials under uniaxial tensile stresses. Tension tests, as described in this test method, also provide information on the superelasticity, as defined in Terminology F 2005 , of the material at the test temperature. 1. Scope 1.1 This test method covers the tension testing of superelastic nickel-titanium (nitinol) materials, specifically the methods of determination of upper plateau strength, lower plateau strength, residual elongation, tensile strength, and elongation. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
