Description of BS 756:1952 1952This British Standard specifies suitable apparatus for the determination of water by the method of distillation with an immiscible liquid. The method is applicable to a wide range of materials in industrial processes and laboratory practice. Condensers and graduated receivers for determination of water content by the Dean and Stark method of distillation with an immiscible liquid. Five sizes of ordinary type of receiver for light liquids (e.g. petroleum spirit, toluole), two sizes of a modified type for heavier liquids (e.g. trichloroethylene, perchlorethylene). Some sizes are provided with stopcocks and alternative connections (ground glass joints or corks) to the distillation vessel; the condenser connection is standardized as a B19 joint.
