afe response depends on making sure fire apparatus drivers and operators are capable of meeting the JPRs in the new NFPA 1002.
The 2017 edition of NFPA 1002: Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications specifies the latest Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) for fire fighters and fire brigade personnel who drive and operate fire apparatus, in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Every driver and operator of fire apparatus needs to be uniquely qualified be meet specific demands based on the influences of the response area -- such as local communities, municipalities, industrial facilities, and those with airports.
With respect to fire fighter life and safety and the enormous cost of fire apparatus, it is incumbent on the driver/operator and the community to have JPRs as professional qualifications in operating and maneuvering fire apparatus, as well as performing preventive maintenance.
Follow the Standard\'s up-to-date criteria for:
Fire department emergency vehicle driver
Pump operator
Aerial operator
Tiller operator
Wildland apparatus operator
Aircraft rescue and fire-fighting apparatus operator
Mobile water supply apparatus operator
New in the 2017 edition:
The requirement that a Driver/Operator be certified to the Firefighter I level was removed. A new requirement is based on the duties of this role outside the IDLH area.
Added annex information provides an overview of the JPRs, to help users implement requirements and develop training programs.
Fire departments, government agencies, and first response organizations nationwide can help ensure safe, prompt emergency response by following the latest edition of NFPA 1002
