Content Description

Per NFPA's requirements, when purchasing NFPA 2021 Standards and/or 2020 NFPA 70 (NEC), you must subscribe to at least one more NFPA Standard to complete your purchase. In order to fulfill this requirement, we automatically add 2019 NFPA 900 to your cart. This title may be removed during checkout if you choose to add a different NFPA standard to your cart, and pricing will be recalculated accordingly.
Improve responder safety using the 2022 edition of NFPA 1990, Standard for Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials and CBRN Operations. This first edition of NFPA 1990, Standard for Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials and CBRN Operations, is a consolidation of the following standards: NFPA 1991, Standard on Vapor-Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials Emergencies and CBRN Terrorism Incidents; NFPA 1992, Standard on Liquid Splash-Protective Ensembles and Clothing for Hazardous Materials Emergencies; and NFPA 1994, Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to Hazardous Materials Emergencies and CBRN Terrorism Incidents. The new standard provides users, manufacturers, test laboratories, and certification authorities with one source of information for the product performance requirements for hazmat/chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) ensembles and ensemble elements. NFPA 1990, Standard for Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials and CBRN Operations, serves as a single information source on chemical protective clothing, while still maintaining the autonomy of the previous standards. The 2022 edition of NFPA 1990, Standard for Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials and CBRN Operations, also includes several updates. Updates to the standards consolidated here include the following: The scopes of the three standards have been combined and a reference to the new NFPA 1891, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Hazardous Materials, CBRN, and Emergency Medical Operations Clothing and Equipment, has been added. An updated and uniform set of definitions has been added to ensure consistency. Certification, labeling, design, and performance requirements have been streamlined into tables. Different footwear design and performance criteria have been separated to address the specific requirements for ensemble socks, full boots, and outer boots. A new test for flame break open resistance has been added to address materials that can be compromised by prolonged exposure to flame and radiant heat sources. The overall ensemble flash fire test has been updated to use a more consistent test platform based on an ASTM test method.
